Ayurveda - “The Science of Life”
Ayurveda is the name of a traditional healing art. One of the oldest known forms of therapy, it continues to develop to this very day. The term comes from Indian Sanskrit and is made up of two words: ayus (life) and veda (knowledge). The greatest value of ayurveda is its ability to identify the causes of illness. Only when one can identify those root causes, can one begin to understand them and set bad habits aside. “Tridosha”, the concept of the three doshas, is the foundation of this approach:
- VATA from space and air (represents motion)
- PITTA from fire and water (represents transformation)
- KAPHA from water and earth (represents form and structure)
which, in combination, govern all functions and processes of the human organism and psyche.
