Major historic events and anniversaries

Wien

    Austrian National Library

Although the special exhibition to mark the 650th anniversary has already ended, the National Library, with its thousands of books in the State Hall and a total of five museums, is still impressive. The so-called "founding codex" of the Imperial Court Library dates from 1368, is written entirely in gold, decorated with elaborate picture ornaments and surrounded by a magnificent binding. Today it is one of the most valuable holdings in the library.

    House of Austrian History

Exactly 100 years after the foundation of the First Republic (on 12 November 1918), the House of History of Austria opened its doors in Vienna. It is housed in the Neue Burg am Heldenplatz. On a total area of 1,800 m² you can follow the development of Austria from the Habsburg Monarchy to the First Republic, the Anschluss to the Nazi Empire as well as the foundation of the Second Republic until today.

    Vienna Secession: Beethoven Frieze

The Vienna Secession, one of the most important Art Nouveau buildings was completely renovated in 2018 on the occasion of its 120th anniversary. In particular, the famous dome with its 2,500 leaves and 342 berries was completely re-gilded. In addition to the Beethoven Frieze by Gustav Klimt, the Secession is also an insider tip for your visit to Vienna thanks to its many exhibitions of contemporary art!

    Vienna State Opera House

After a Corona-related break, there is good news for culture fans: on May 19, the State Opera was allowed to open its doors again! With appropriate safety measures, six premieres can take place in front of an audience in the coming weeks (until the end of the season on June 30)! From "Carmen" and "Faust" to "Macbeth" and "Der Barbier für Kinder" (The Barber for Children) - there's plenty to marvel at and listen to.

Graffiti safari

Over the years the 7th district has developed to become a graffiti hotspot.  It is no longer just a question of colour on the wall.

Imperial art & culture

With numerous Sisi exhibits

When visiting the Sisi Museum, I also recommend a walk through the Volksgarten, where Empress Elisabeth is immortalized in a quiet corner in the form of a monument. This former imperial rose garden scores every year with a flowering of 400 beautiful rose varieties.
