Klimt and Viennese Modernism

The eponymous building of the Vienna Secession is known to be one of the most impressive and most significant examples of Art Nouveau in Austria and has just undergone extensive renovation in time for the anniversary year. The freshly shining golden dome is reminiscent of the most successful artistic years of its very first president: Gustav Klimt.

The Vienna Secession, one of the most important Art Nouveau buildings was completely renovated in 2018 on the occasion of its 120th anniversary. In particular, the famous dome with its 2,500 leaves and 342 berries was completely re-gilded. In addition to the Beethoven Frieze by Gustav Klimt, the Secession is also an insider tip for your visit to Vienna thanks to its many exhibitions of contemporary art!

Klimt Villa: Klimt lost (until 31 December 2018)

In Klimt's last studio, the Klimt Villa, this special exhibition rightfully poses the question as to how we should deal with the loss of significant Klimt paintings or drawings. Many were lost during the war years through Nazi plunder, were returned, have disappeared or were even burned. A retrospective worth seeing!
