Walk to the top of the Patscherkofel

Yeah, it's a classic. But classics don't exist without a reason! If you start at the mountain railway station, the hike to the summit of Innsbruck's local mountain takes about 50 minutes. Then the amazing view from the top.  And the sun terrace of the Patscherkofel mountain shelter. And above all the best curd cheese, apple and poppy seed strudel in the Alps!

    Hofgarten

In the beautiful park at the edge of the old town you can relax on the lawn in fair weather. Ideal for an autumn-picnic at the weekend. Or for a little tree exploration - the oldest one there (the "Maria Theresa spruce") is a proud 260 years old.

    Alpine Zoo

Innsbruck's Alpine Zoo is open 365 days a year - and that's not its only special feature. It is located above the rooftops of Innsbruck, at the foot of the Nordkette, and no other zoo in the world can compete with it when it comes to wild animals from the Alpine region. If you don't mind a few meters of elevation, you can take a leisurely walk from the city center to the Alpine Zoo. A perfect start to an outdoor day.

Nothing is easier than that: the nearby Wachau (the most picturesque stretch of the Danube Valley), the Danube Island with its cycle paths and the huge, modern thermal baths in Oberlaa are easily accessible destinations for a day trip.
