Viennese stories at the Museum

The history of the Original Viennese Snowglobe Manufacture is a story of craftsmanship, inventiveness and technical innovation. Around 1900, a surgical instrument mechanic (!) accidentally invented the now famous glass ball with snow effect during experiments. The very first snow globe was "filled" with a miniature of the Mariazell Basilica: Until today one of the most popular souvenirs - always unique and still handmade.

Although oftentimes she was not at home in the Hofburg, for she was a constant traveler and avoided the courtly ceremonial and Viennese crowds as much as she could. A relatively young Viennese museum that beautifully presents the family history and the vast amount of musical works that Johann Strauss father and son, Edi and Josef Strauss produced.
