Viennese stories at the Museum

Unique and charming – just like the city.

Every visitor to Vienna takes home one or the other souvenir. And souvenirs are memories - even of local, typical museums.

    Original Viennese Snowglobemanufacture

The history of the Original Viennese Snowglobe Manufacture is a story of craftsmanship, inventiveness and technical innovation. Around 1900, a surgical instrument mechanic (!) accidentally invented the now famous glass ball with snow effect during experiments. The very first snow globe was "filled" with a miniature of the Mariazell Basilica: Until today one of the most popular souvenirs - always unique and still handmade.

    Sisi Museum

What would Vienna be without Empress Elisabeth (Sisi)? Although oftentimes she was not at home in the Hofburg, for she was a constant traveler and avoided the courtly ceremonial and Viennese crowds as much as she could. But the Sisi Museum in the Hofburg is nevertheless a beautiful insight into the myth of "Sisi". Virtual tour online

    Museum of the Strauss Dynasty

For the time being only visitable ONLINE - but it is worth it!

A relatively young Viennese museum that beautifully presents the family history and the vast amount of musical works that Johann Strauss father and son, Edi and Josef Strauss produced. Every year at the New Year's Concert they are honored. Because of Covid19, the museum can only be experienced online until further notice.

    Coffee Museum Vienna

Belongs to Vienna like Sisi, the Fiaker or the snow globes: The coffee and with it the typical Viennese coffee house, in which one can sit for hours with coffee and the daily newspaper. In Vienna, coffee is a "cultural asset of the first order", says the founder, and he is certainly right. It is not for nothing that the Viennese coffee house culture is part of the UNESCO cultural heritage.

Innsbruck museums which you should visit

Not always imperial, but always interesting

As a former imperial residence (with a view of the Alps, mind you) Innsbruck was an important location in Austrian history. That's why there is a quasi second Hofburg with imperial apartments - as in Vienna. Especially Maximilian I was delighted with his Innsbruck. So delighted that he also wanted to be buried here: the Court Church is actually only there because of him - however he did not live to see the 40 statues, the "black men", which he wanted to have around his grave. Today only 28 remain. Rich ones too.
