    Rathauspark

It is quite likely that during your tour of the “Grätzl” you will not really experience the Rathauspark as a park - because the park is the location for various events throughout nearly the whole year. If you do find a quiet spot, then it is worth taking a moment to relax and enjoy this peaceful green oasis in the middle of the city.

    Volksgarten

From the outside it is difficult to imagine the floral splendour which lies hidden behind the huge railings. That is why you definitely have to go inside for a short stop. The many beautiful roses have all been individually dedicated – it is therefore worth reading the signs!

    University of Vienna

The arcaded inner courtyard of Vienna University is only accessible to the students, which is why you should also take a look here. The university was established in 1365 by Rudolph the Founder. Under the arcades you can find the busts of many prominent graduates, including for example that of Sigmund Freud.

Imperial cuisine

From imperial rolls to imperial pancakes

There are many anecdotes about the famous Austrian “Kaiserschmarren”, a traditional pancake dish. One of them goes as follows: in 1854 the Viennese court pâtissier created a new dish for the wedding of Emperor Franz Joseph I and Elisabeth of Bavaria. But Elisabeth - always thinking about her slim figure - spurned this sweet dish. The Emperor jokingly took Sisi’s plate and said with a smile: "Well then give me the “Schmarren” which our Leopold has created”. The Emperor (the “Kaiser”) enjoyed the taste of this sweet dish so much that it was known ever after as “Kaiserschmarren”.
