Christmas markets Vienna

Like every year, Austria's most famous Christmas tree stands at Vienna's Rathausplatz. With a height of 28 meters and magnificent lighting, the spruce is admired by thousands of people. The tourist magnet on Rathausplatz is one of the most famous Christmas markets and offers a variety of Christmas goods, delicious food and warm drinks in the 120 huts. The slightly smaller Christmas markets are among the secrets in the run-up to Christmas. Fancy, original arts and crafts, homemade punch and mulled wine, lovingly decorated gingerbread and wonderfully fragrant Christmas stollen are part of the Christmas offer. The most well-known Christmas markets beside the tourist magnet at the Rathausplatz are the Christmas markets in front of the Schönbrunn Palace and in front of the Belvedere Palace. The magical, historic ambience paired with glittering lights and the scent of Christmas treats brings lights into the eyes of visitors.

Musical Christmas magic

Vienna the city of music, has a lot to offer in the Aventzeit. Even at numerous atmospheric Christmas markets in Vienna, the music program is indispensable. Enjoy the traditional Viennese musical advent with the Austria Trend Hotels.

The most beautiful custom of the country

The Ebensee Glöcklerlauf, which takes place annually on 5 January, is characterized by the typical white robe of all passports, the wearing and ringing of large bells, the running of various figures and the wearing of light caps. With the dull sound of the bells and the bright glow of the candles, they seek the salvation and blessing of the good spirits and cast out the evil spirits. An Advent highlight for the whole family.

The last Styrian folk play

As one of the last Styrian folk plays, the Öblarner Krampusspiel is played every year in early December by laymen as a parlor game and publicly on the marketplace. Here, figures such as the "Schab", straw-sheathed figures with huge horns and the "lichen man", a grim fellow with a braid costume, make their grand entrance. Summer and winter enter the stage and fight in a debate about supremacy with original texts from the 18th century. The Öblarner Krampusspiel, which was included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 2014, inspires small and large each year through customs and traditions.

When the Christ child comes ..

...the city of Innsbruck stands still, because in Innsbruck comes the Christ Child and not Santa Claus. This tradition is still kept high here. That's why every year before Christmas a trandion Christ Child perade takes place on a Sunday. Together with shepherds, angels sheep and over 500 children, the Christ Child in his splendid car pulls through the Maria-Theresien-Straße to the Landestheater. At the square in front of the Tiroler Landestheater, all sing together "Silent Night". An Advent experience with a contemplative mood.

Christmas market in Ljubljana

In Ljubljana Advent is pretty busy! "Happy December" offers many a good opportunity to visit Slovenia's capital and spend the pre-Christmas or Christmas holidays in our Austria Trend Hotel Ljubljana. The luminous city of Ljubljana offers pure Christmas spirit in a lively atmosphere at the Advent market on the main square.

Living cribs and magical winter fairy tales

Cribs are one of the most popular Christmas symbols in Slovenia. They are placed in the churches and in many Slovenian houses under the Christmas tree. Meanwhile, cribs are also found in other, more unusual places than under the local Christmas tree. Every year there are staged productions of so-called "living cribs", which can be found in several Slovenian cities. Our tip is the Christmas spectacle in the cave of Postojna. The living manger transforms the cave into a magical Christmas location. An unforgettable experience for young and old.
