At this time of year the warm sunshine and the balmy summer evenings draw us magically into the open air and out into the countryside. Wonderful restaurant gardens and pavement cafés attract guests with good food and cool drinks under their sunshades. And they are already very crowded. So why not look for a nice spot and enjoy some peace in the countryside?

Sun, a good mood and a basket full of goodies are the only prerequisites for a successful picnic. A picnic under the blue sky is also not such a strain on your travel budget.  Whether alone, as a couple or in a group, in the mountains, in the woods or near the water - the possibilities are endless. The main thing is fun! So pack your picnic baskets, a good bottle of wine, a comfortable blanket under your arm and off you go! We've put together some of the best picnic hotspots in the country for you.

Picnic in the heart of the city

The big advantage of having a picnic is that you can put your blanket down wherever it pleases you. So you can save the search for a free table in the restaurant. In particular the really nice gardens in the heart of the city are very quickly full.  All the more reason to look for a spot on your own - far away from the hustle and bustle.

Some federal states offer picnic options which are absolutely spectacular. Every visitor is immediately enchanted by the majestic mountains of Tyrol. More than 500 peaks exceed the 3,000 metre mark, and more than 600 different glaciers cover the high mountain areas on the main Alpine ridge. But you do not have to go that high in order to breathe in Tyrolean Alpine flair. Lush, green alpine meadows offer idyllic picnic areas en masse - including imposing views of the mountains.
