A visit to Linz with the Austria Trend Hotels

From Austria’s biggest church to the Romantic Road and the Museum of the Future – find out why Linz is always worth a visit. Be it a men’s trip or a family holiday: at the Radisson Individuals Hotel Schillerpark, you get to experience Upper Austria at its best!

The ultimate hotspots at the Upper Austrian capital

Did you know that Austria’s biggest church stands in Linz? Alongside the New Cathedral (the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception), the Schlossmuseum Linz is equally worth a visit. It’s the biggest universal museum of the country and housed by the castle. The best location to enjoy some scenic views is the Pöstlingberg which can easily be reached from the main square by way of a historical tram.

Shop to your heart’s content! Great insider’s tips are the Old Town of Linz, the Herrenstraße and the Bischofstraße. Additionally, the Landstraße is one of the most well-known shopping streets in Austria and the shopping centres Plus City and Passage are particularly popular with tourists.

Destinations for an excursion in Linz and Upper Austria

You’re more in the mood for some arts and culture? Then you should pay one of the most modern opera houses in Europe a visit. The Music Theatre at the Volksgarten was opened in 2013 and wows its audiences with multimedia performances. Be it opera, ballet, musicals or operettas – the sound and cosy ambiance of the building is going to impress you! At the Lentos Art Museum at the Danube, you may also enjoy some contemporary art exhibitions.

The Linzer Torte simply belongs to Linz. And it tastes best at the Konditorei Jindrak. This confectionery was opened in 1929 and it’s one of the city’s hallmarks. It’s amongst the most popular and successful confectioneries in Austria and the Original Linzer Torte has achieved international popularity as well. It’s made with high-quality regional products and freshly baked on a daily basis – based on the traditional recipe. It doesn’t get any better than this! Good to know: The Linzer Torte and other gifts and souvenirs can all be ordered online as well.

Off to the pottery city of Gmunden! But there is much more that awaits you there than just the traditional workshops of the world-famous Gmundner Keramikmanufaktur (pottery manufactory): The breath-taking view of the impressive Traunstein mountain, for example. Or the view of the charming picturesque city from a boat. At the Old Town, you get to feel and experience the city’s history. The Seeschloss Ort – a castle built on a little island in Lake Traunsee – is one of Gmunden’s most famous landmarks and everyone should go there at least once!

Experiencing Austria along the Romantic Road. Sounds amazing? It is! This “connecting line” between Salzburg and Vienna leads you through Austria’s most stunning scenery – spanning a distance of 380 kilometres. Linz is only one of many worthwhile stops along the road. You should also visit the one-thousand-year-old small town of Steyr at the Kalkalpen National Park. We particularly recommend the open-air performances at the castle moat in summer!

From a fairytale land to the future – Linz for the whole family

The right address for lovers of culture and the arts: the Brucknerhaus, located right at the Danube. This concert hall named after Anton Bruckner is amongst the most beautiful ones of its kind in the country – and it offers special performances for children as well as a kid’s club.

Experience a glimpse into the future with your loved ones! At the Ars Electronica Center, advanced technology can be experienced in a tangible way by all ages. The family tour also leads you through the exhibition and participation area for children as well as the children’s future lab.

A fairytale excursion to the Grottenbahn! Since 1906, the fairytale land at the Pöstlingberg amazes its visitors. Inside a former fortification tower, you can enter the realm of dwarfs. On a roundtrip through the lovingly and creatively designed world of the dwarfs and famous fairytales, you’re always accompanied by Lenzibald, the dragon.

Another dose of creativity and imagination at the Gelbes Krokodil – this time for your taste buds! The restaurant at the Moviemento cinema is known to attract a particularly art-affine crowd. Enjoy regional and unique culinary creations in a family-friendly atmosphere. A baby cinema is directly adjacent to the restaurant.
