Austria's second largest city likes superlatives and awards. With THAT history no wonder and Graz really has a lot to offer. And not only as a UNESCO World Heritage city and Austria's capital of indulgence, but also as an awarded "City of Design". If you think about design and architecture, then you must also think about art and culture. Graz is at the forefront in all of these things.

As the capital of indulgence, Graz is not only a great place for culinary gourmets: cultural indulgence is at least as important here. Whether in the opera, the theatre, the Kunsthaus or on the Island on the Mur and in the museums: "Graz hat’s" (“Graz has got it”), as they used to say. Nowadays they say: #visit Graz.

Curtain up: Graz on stage

You don't even have to look for culture in Graz, it lurks on every corner. Graz's theatres play a leading role here, skilfully covering all cultural preferences from opera, musical and operetta to spoken theatre and ballet in various venues. There is also something here for young people and for very young audiences in the stage buildings, because you can't start early enough with cultural education.

Enjoying culture is not only possible above ground in Graz: directly below the Schlossberg, the hill on which the castle stands, you can party, dance or go to a classical and pop concert in the vast underground “Dom in Berg” or in the famous casemates - the old walls of the former fortification. Graz can offer all of that.

Graz has been entitled to call itself the "UNESCO City of Design" since 2011- an award that is presented for an indefinite period of time and which wants to see design anchored in all areas of life in an urban culture. Graz is thus officially a particularly promising place in the world for the future and we too find that excellent! The design hotspots are located in Graz's Lendviertel and Jakominiviertel: cool shops with design for fashion, kitchen, food, jewellery and interior design. Art, design and architecture are combined in the following tips:
