Sightseeing and shopping – the hotspots in Bratislava

One thing’s for certain: You can’t get around the following three while at the Slovakian capital! What used to be owned by the rulers is now a proud symbol of the city. Right! We’re talking about the Bratislava Castle. Right at the city centre, you’ll also find the Old Town Hall which used to house the city’s municipal administration. Equally as impressive: St. Martin’s Cathedral with its Baroque style spire – topped with a 150-kilo replica of the crown of St. Stephen.

Extended shopping tours are exactly what you’re looking for? Then you should pay the Eurovea Galleria between the Old Town and the Ružinov district a visit! The Aupark Shopping Center and the Avion Shopping Park are also immensely popular with shopaholics from all over! You’d rather shop like in the olden days? You can do so in the Old Town at Obchod v Muzeu – one of the oldest shops of the city.

The best locations away from the hustle and bustle of the Slovakian capital

Lovers of the arts and culture truly get their money’s worth in Bratislava. The Danubiana Meulensteen Art Museum – one of the biggest art museums of the Slovakian capital – has been attracting art enthusiasts from all over the world since it opened in 2000. What’s so special about it are not just the exhibitions of internationally known artists and its collection of contemporary art, but also – and especially – its location. This cultural gem is located about 15 kilometres south of the city’s centre on a peninsula in the Danube.

Want to go on a journey back in time? Then you should visit the Devín Castle! Explore the castle’s ruins – one of the most important archaeological sites in Central Europe. High up on a rock above the river junction of the Danube and the Morava, you get to enjoy breath-taking views. Let your eyes wander across the enchanting scenery as you’re experiencing a piece of Slovakian history.

Speaking of history: Did you know that the Slovak National Theatre was opened as a local theatre in 1886 already? The Bratislava Opera, with its historical building from the Neo-Renaissance, is the oldest theatre in Slovakia and now also one of the most modern representatives of its kind. Visit both the old and the new building on the outskirts of town. It’s well worth it!

Bratislava isn’t enough for you? Why not pay the Austrian capital a visit? The Twin City Liner  takes you from one metropolis to the other in only 75 minutes. The pier can be reached quickly and easily from the Austria Trend Hotel Bratislava****. Yet another reason that speaks for city hopping by boat, don’t you think?

Bratislava’s top destinations for families

Little explorers experience great cultural adventures at the Slovakian capital. The Bibiana – the International House of Art for Children – was conceptualized for children and adolescents of all ages. For small admissions, you can visit interactive expositions and different accompanying events: from theatre plays to creative workshops and music programmes.

Have you ever heard about the “Oasis of the Siberian Tiger ”? The goal of this exemplary project in West Slovakia is as simple as it is important: Children are supposed to develop awareness of the endangered animals and plants on our planet. Since 1999 and with a total of 20 Siberian tigers, the oasis helps to preserve this rare species. Opening hours are on weekends, holidays and daily during the summer holidays.

All the exploring made you hungry? The Little Al Trivio is perfect for families. Specially designated family tables, a children’s menu and lots of fun make a visit to this restaurant an unforgettable one. The little guests get to show their artistic skills while drawing on the tables’ surfaces or the interactive wall. Meanwhile, Mum and Dad can enjoy their steak or a delicious risotto from the adults’ menu.
