Summer tips on the outskirts of Vienna

Let's go south!

The largest subterranean lake on the continent, idyllic places in the heart of industrial centres and a bathing lake with plenty of action – above all in summer a visit to the city’s southern borders is well worthwhile.

    Seegrotte Hinterbrühl

The largest underground lake in Europe - 6,200 m² - is located in Hinterbrühl on the outskirts of Vienna. In 1912, after a detonation in the former gypsum mine in Hinterbrühl, the lake was more or less created  by accident - and even the most adamant city dwellers are still impressed by this today.

  2. 2

Kahrteich Wiener Neudorf - Seerestaurant Oase

You would not expect to find one of the most idyllic bathing areas in the immediate vicinity of the industrial area of Wiener Neudorf. But right there, hidden behind trees and bushes, the water is even so clean that not people not only swim but also dive. Also recommended:  the Seerestaurant Oasis right next to the lake.

    100 days of summer

If you are looking for a bit more excitement, you should make a detour to Brunn am Gebirge. Just a stone's throw from Vösendorf there are 100 days of summer swimming, beach volleyball, chilling, eating and drinking. It starts this year on April 28th.
